The concept of in-group and out-group suggest that some people will be treated better than others. Is this fair?

Some students may answer that this is a useful way of obtaining better organizational outcomes
and that it is fair to treat more productive employees better. These students may point out that
the in-group could be the organization and the out-group the competitors.
Other students may answer that this is unfair. From a diversity perspective, leaders may be
biased to favor those of their own gender and race, making it difficult for members of minority
groups to get ahead. From a more general perspective, the leader is likely to select those that
agree with him or her and this is likely to result in a department or organization that does not
value divergent opinions.
