Fitzpatrick and Ritchie, and Koerner and Fitzpatrick, have developed a model to understand family interaction that uses two dimensions—conversation orientation, and conformity orientation. Think of a family you know, describe the family (members, etc), and use the model to describe which one of the types this family falls into, and why.
What will be an ideal response?
In order to respond to this question, a description of the family is required. Then, the response should use the chart with types of families (Fig. 10.1). Based on the chart, the response should indicate how the respondent depicts the family along the options for each dimension (low/high). Finally, responses should identify the family type, and describe the main characteristics provided in the text.
