The Cycle of Violence has three components: the Tension-Building Phase in which things operate “business as usual” for a while and then little things start to trigger tension and stress in the relationship; the Acute Battering Phase – when the violent act occurs; and the Honeymoon Phase – the period in which the perpetrator begs for forgiveness and promises not to hurt the victim again.
