Explain Lombroso’s theory of crime and why Dracula is considered to have Lombrosian traits.

What will be an ideal response?

Lombroso’s theory of crime was that he could determine criminality based on their stigmata. Stigmata were physical manifestations of the atavism of an individual, which was the idea that the features were a throwback to an earlier stage of evolutionary development. He hypothesized that if a person contained five or more stigmata, that they were inevitably be a born criminal. During Lombroso’s height of popularity, his ideas became popular among academics, scientists and writers. Bram Stroker’s Dracula is said to be based on Lombrosian traits of a villain because of his high-bridged, this nose; arched nostrils; massive eyebrows; and pointed ears.
