Water aerobics is my favorite summer exercise, so I participate in it two or three times a week. Unless there is thunder, lightning, or heavy rain. I exercise with about ten other women. We use a section of the pool at the John G. and Jane J. Brown recreational center. You have to pay two dollars for the class, even if your a member. Some women think that’s awful, but I think its fair. Mondays our group leader is Maria. She’s a relaxed and encouraging instructor. Stretching slowly at the beginning of each session and making sure everyone is working at a comfortable pace. As we progress to our cardio and core routines. Although I have done water aerobics for two years I have yet to acheive her range of motion. Our other group leader is Deborah. A friend who used to swim competitively. Deborah has a more energetic approach. That complements Maria’s style. She tends to emphasize faster movements. That some of the women find challenging to keep up with however she always reminds us that we can work at a slower rate. If we find that more comfortable. My own stamina and strength have improved dramatically since I began water aerobics. Because I’ve learned how to tread water for longer periods of time and how to incorporate weight training. Last spring I invested in a pair of denser water weights. Now my weight training is more challenging. Because of the greater resistance of the higher density weights.
