According to data, what are some trends in online dating? (e.g., gender differences)
What will be an ideal response?
It is hard to provide reliable data on the use of the Internet in dating and sexuality, but studies generally show that the number of people who try to find partners online is high and increasing over time. Since studies ask different questions, numbers are hard to compare, but one study reports that 9.8% of respondents use the Internet for finding dating partners, and the same percentage uses it for finding sex partners. In one study, 35% of men and 40% of women who used the Internet for sexual purposes reported meeting sexual partners online. While in younger people (under 35), there are no
gender differences, in the sample over 35, more women than men met an offline sexual partner over the Internet. However, there is a study reporting that instead of gender, other orientation versus self-orientation is a predictor of using the Internet for dating.
