Do you agree or disagree with this statement, and why? Teachers’ beliefs about family engagement are as important as, if not more important than, the number and quality of family engagement policies and programs established by the school.

What will be an ideal response?

Relationships matter! Negative attitudes or biases toward families or about the value of family input can thwart all other efforts at family engagement. Without genuine trust and respect, partnering relationships cannot be developed. Negative attitudes will stop the process before it even begins.
Teachers who believe that family engagement is not worth the time or effort required will not fully engage in programs/activities themselves or encourage families to participate; they may even hope such programs fail.
