Discuss the strengths-based view of personality development.

What will be an ideal response?


The strengths-based counseling model uses a postmodern approach to personality development. That is, it does not subscribe to the theory that personality actually exists. At best, personality consists of habitual traits and characteristics that individuals display on a consistent basis. Hence, what is labeled as personality is socially constructed rather a static part of individuals. Individuals’ perceptions of their strengths and weaknesses form a part of what traditional theories label as personality.
