Late talkers are one type of language-impaired population. These children demonstrate an early delay in language in the absence of cognitive, motor, sensory impairment, social or emotional disorders, and environmental deprivation. It is primarily a delay in expressive language such as a delay in acquiring morphemes and having a small verb vocabulary. Down syndrome is a genetic disorder associated with mental retardation or intellectual disability. Children with Down syndrome will have a greater impairment in syntax than in semantics. These children also have difficulty with intent to request. Autism Spectrum Disorder is a developmental disorder. Children with autism may have impairments in verbal and nonverbal communication, social interaction, eye contact, and play skills.
