What unsatisfactory verbal behaviors by students have you witnessed in this classroom? Why do those behaviors have a negative impact? What could your instructor do to create a more favorable climate for communication?

What will be an ideal response?

Student nonverbal behavior should be such that it indicates attentiveness and interest.
Listening should be focused with a minimum of competing distractions (i.e., like checking
Facebook, etc.). Verbal behavior that is responsive by answering questions, showing
comprehension, or seeking clarification should be affirming. Professors can generally improve
the climate using techniques that show interest and create an environment that encourages interaction. Students will be more likely to risk responding when instructors encourage
expression of opinions and are not harshly judgmental when thoughts are offered.
