What foods do you eat that contain phospholipids, and why are these often added to foods?

Phospholipids are found naturally in most foods because they are components of cell membranes (animals) and cell walls (plants). They are also used as a food additive, particularly to stabilize foods such as mayonnaise and ice cream so they don't separate. Look for "lecithin" or its less common name, phophatidylcholine, on the food label.
