What are the goals of diversion programs?

What will be an ideal response?

Diversion programs are designed to help offenders avoid the stigma of a criminal conviction. Diversion programs can accomplish this by avoiding the harsh and criminogenic impacts of incarceration or prison. They also provide a range of alternatives for decision makers to choose from. Also, they provide a "more justifying justice" for victims and communities. Diversion programs also deal with the economic, social, and personal factors associated with crime, rather than the punitively oriented alternative.
