How do number families support students when working with angles?

What will be an ideal response?

The degrees in an angle that is divided into two parts can be shown as the big number in a number family and the two parts (component angles) are the small numbers in that family. To find the value of an unknown component angle, students learn to construct a number family equation which the big number (total number of degrees) and the two smaller numbers (degrees of each component angle). Using number family logic, the students can determine the value of an unknown angle using the two known values.
