Explain the different styles of management when dealing with issues or problems within the correctional system.

What will be an ideal response?

Managers can respond to organizational problems by two different means: reactively or proactively. In the reactive style of management, a supervisor waits until a problem develops and then responds to remedy the situation. A proactive style of management seeks to anticipate and correct problems before they develop. The intent of the communication and awareness techniques is to provide the opportunity for senior administrators (the warden and assistant wardens) to act proactively to prevent potential problems. Essentially, proactive management has a preventative basis that eliminates or reduces factors that may escalate into a more serious circumstance.
