Discuss the fair trade movement.
What will be an ideal response?
Fair trade is commonly used to identify products that are involved with sustainability purchasing but usually focuses on the beginning of the product chain. The Fairtrade Foundation's definition of fair trade is:
Fair trade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. By requiring companies to pay sustainable prices (which must never fall lower than the market price), Fairtrade addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers . It enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives. The fair trade movement intends to use the market system to enhance the influence of the supplier stakeholder. The best known fair trade products are coffee, spices, tea, cocoa, and fruit, but today retailers carry many fair trade products including wine, flowers, and beauty products.
