Describe three forms of bias that can exist when standardized testing is used with members of cultural minorities. Provide an example of each

What will be an ideal response?

Bias in content, bias in testing procedures, and bias in test use are all possibilities when using standardized tests with members of cultural minorities. Bias in content exists if students' performance on the test requires knowledge other than what the test is supposed to measure that the students might not have, such as Alaskan natives' needing to understand baseball in order to compute a batting average. Bias in testing procedures exists if students don't understand how to take the tests or don't understand the importance of the tests. Bias in interpretation can occur if students are classified as learning disabled when the issue might be an inadequate understanding of English.
