Explain the history of mise en scène as it relates to theater productions
What will be an ideal response?
Mise en scène was originally a French theatrical term meaning "placing on stage."
The phrase refers to the arrangement of all the visual elements of a theatrical production
within a given playing area: the stage. No matter how far this playing area extends in all
directions, even out into the audience, the mise en scène is always in three dimensions.
Objects and people are arranged in actual space with depth, height, and width. This space
encompasses that which is shared by the audience, creating an intimate, interactive setting.
