Ans: Diagnosis takes two steps:
Step 1:
Developmental screening—a brief assessment designed to identify youngsters who should receive a more thorough evaluation
Surveillance—process whereby health care professionals monitor children who may have a development disability
Step 2:
A comprehensive evaluation by a multidisciplinary team of professionals
Includes clinical and educational observations, caregiver interviews, developmental histories, psychological testing, speech-language assessments, and one or more diagnostic scales
