Importance: These themes help teachers organize their own understanding for planning curriculum and they help with student's understandings.
Location: There are two ways to describe the position of people and places on earth. They are absolute and relative. Absolute location is the grid system representing latitude and longitude. Relative location is the interaction among places.
Place: Physical and human characteristics describe places on earth with special features.
Movement: People interacting with other people by travel and communication. These interactions are dependent upon each other.
Region: Areas on the earths' surface, which are defined by either physical or human unifying characteristics.
Human-Environment Interaction: The way people interact with their environment and change them.
