Describe the benefits and concerns about random assignment in educational research.

What will be an ideal response?

One major benefit of using a random assignment is that it improves internal validity (how well the treatments are implemented and how well a researcher can conclude that the impact of the independent variable effects the dependent variable). Essentially the use of randomization, assigning participants randomly to experimental and control groups, reduces the number of threats to validity of the study. One of the criticisms of random assignment is that there can be ethical concerns about assigning participants randomly and not giving them an opportunity to choose to participate in a particular group or experience.
