Why does your body store more energy as fat than as carbohydrate?

What will be an ideal response?

Answers may vary. Our bodies store energy as fat because it is a more efficient form of energy storage. Fat has a greater caloric density per gram (9 kilocalories) than carbohydrates (4 kilocalories). One triglyceride containing three fatty acids, each with 18 carbons, would produce approximately 324 ATPs compared to the 36 produced by one glucose molecule. The human body would have to carry more weight if it were to store its energy in carbohydrates rather than fat.
