Why is it important for players to get a steady supply of carbohydrates from three meals a day instead from snacks throughout the day?
Young adults, especially athletes, need to get enough calories each day to support their activities and body growth. According to the acceptable macronutrient distribution range (AMDR) for carbohydrates, 45-65% of all calories need to come from carbohydrates like starches, sugars and fiber. If the athlete does not get enough carbohydrates for their activities, their body's cells will draw on stored fat and may also resort to breaking down lean muscle tissue. This can lead to fatigue and weakness and inability to finish practices or games. The cells get energy from carbohydrates most efficiently and getting enough carbohydrates from meals throughout the day ensures that the body has enough energy for activities.
