In Ernie's student portraiture, he expresses doubts about his reading abilities. Do you like to read? How do you feel about your reading load at college? How does your experience compare to Ernie's?

What will be an ideal response?

Some students do like to read and read often. Many do not, and some never read anything more substantial than a magazine article. If your students fall into the latter category, the college reading load will seem far more daunting, as they find no pleasure in the activity. This attitude is mutable, however; assure students that they can develop a more positive attitude toward reading.
