Classroom management
Chapter 6 includes a discussion of a variety of aspects relating to classroom management. In your essay, discuss each of the keys to effective classroom management. Give an original example of how each will apply in your situation. Identify three keys that you anticipate will be a real challenge to your professional development and explain your reasons. Then identify three strategies you can use to acquire more information and competence in those areas.
What will be an ideal response?
ANS: Scoring guide:
Key elements that should appear in an appropriate response:
* Each student is expected to identify the keys discussed in the text and to discuss the major aspect of each, defining terms when appropriate (e.g., consequences). Complete information provided clearly is required for full credit.
* The second part of the assignment requires that the student provide a relevant original example of each key. Complete credit depends on the appropriateness of each example.
* The third part asks the student to use reflection and experience to identify three keys that may prove problematic. The student must also provide at least one logical reason for identifying each professional challenge. Quality of responses can result in addition or subtraction of points.
* The last part of the assignment asks the student to engage in reflective thinking and problem solving to identify ways of engaging in self-initiated professional development (as noted in the InTASC standard 9 in Chapter 4).
