What is the purpose of law? What would a society without laws be like?

What will be an ideal response?

The purpose of law is to regulate relationships between parties and between people. Without law, people would not know what to expect from each other (civil), would not feel safe (criminal), or be able to exercise their basic rights as a citizen (constitutional). Society needs laws to uphold fairness and to prevent the victimization of innocents.
