When defining social media, it is not enough to classify them as we do other media. Social media resist easy classification because they are as much technology as they are media (in the traditional definition of selling space at a certain time) and can take on many different forms including magazines, forums, weblogs, social blogs, microblogs, wikis, podcasts, photographs or pictures, videos, ratings, and social bookmarking.
