The Fight BAC! campaign developed by the USDA and the
Partnership for Food Safety Education provides consumers
with basic rules for handling, preparing, and storing food.
Describe the four components of the Fight BAC! campaign.
Components of Fight BAC! include:
• Clean—Clean your hands after use of the toilet, changing
a diaper, or handling a pet. "Clean" also means washing
fruits and vegetables in order to wash away pathogens
and noninfectious agents such as pesticides.
• Separate—This refers to avoiding cross-contamination
by separating raw meat and seafood from other foods in
your grocery cart, in your refrigerator, and while you're
preparing a meal.
• Cook—This is a reminder that we need to cook food to
appropriate temperatures in order to kill pathogens.
• Chill—This refers to storing food at temperatures cold
enough to slow or prohibit pathogen growth.
