How does having younger people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes affect society and its well-being in general?
People with type 2 diabetes need to stay vigilant about monitoring and controlling their blood glucose levels. If their blood glucose levels are too high, the glucose will attach to the red blood cells and the walls of the blood vessels. This can lead to cardiovascular disease, kidney failure, blindness, neurological damage, or amputation. These are long term conditions that require on-going medical care. Younger people with these conditions may not enjoy a productive work or family life as fully as their healthier counterparts.
