Describe the five objectives emphasized in this chapter for online learning integrated with traditional learning, encouraging transformation of teacher-centered learning to student-centered learning. Explain how Moodle might be a good platform for those objectives

What will be an ideal response?

? To teach the basic skills: teachers post on discussion boards, students respond with paraphrases or generalization of facts and possible make presentations to the class.

? To teach higher-level skills: teacher uploads reading materials, student apply, analyze, synthesize and evaluation information. Students can also construct, investigate, propose or conclude findings on discussion boards.

? Inquiry-based activity: Teacher can create a WebQuest and students are required to conduct an investigation through specific steps the teacher has set up.

? Online discussions: teachers set up asynchronous online discussions asking students to critique each other's work through questioning, raising contradictory issues for debate, by inviting experts to share experiences and thoughts, or by raising problems for students to solve.

? Online learning communities and collaborative learning: teacher engages students by having them collaborate online to develop a sense of community, sharing ideas, experiences and resources.

Moodle enables teachers to manage these activities in a free, open source format allowing teachers to maintain contact with students in or outside the classroom in a safe environment. Teachers can set up the discussion as they wish and students can log on whenever it is convenient for them. There is also technical assistance available for the teacher as well as the students.
