Student examples may vary, but should be similar to the following. The five categories of laboratory skills are acquisition which includes listening (being attentive, alert, and questioning); organizational which includes contrasting (noticing how things differ); creative which includes designing (identifying new problems); manipulative which includes using an instrument (knowing its parts, how it works, how to adjust it, its proper use for a given task, and its limitations); and communicative which includes discussing (learning to formulate good questions and to be selective in asking).
