Students who participated in the goal setting intervention had positive academic outcomes. For example, their GPA increased from a 2.25 average to a 2.91 average. The GPA after the invention was significantly higher than the students who did not participate in the goal setting intervention (2.46). Another benefit associated with participating in the goal intervention is that these students were less likely to withdraw from classes. Finally, students in the goal group had less negative affect than those who were not a part of the goal intervention. These results indicate that learning how to set effective goals has very positive academic benefits and is therefore a worthwhile learning activity.
