List and explain the four methods of delivery
What will be an ideal response?
The four methods of delivery are impromptu, manuscript, memorized, and
extemporaneous. Impromptu speaking is usually somewhat informal, and done with little or
no preparation. Impromptu speaking is most often unexpected, and therefore the standards
for organization are somewhat lessened. Second is manuscript delivery. This method occurs
when a speaker delivers a message from a complete text prepared in advance. Political
speeches are most often delivered in manuscript form. Speeches that will be republished in
their entirety or extensively quoted are likely to be delivered in manuscript form. Third is
memorized delivery, where a speaker prepares a written text and then memorizes it word for
word. Finally, the most popular form of delivery is extemporaneous. This method of speaking
from notes allows for spontaneity and the opportunity to respond to audience feedback, while
still being prepared and organized.
