relationship between the mens rea and actus reus. For example, in the crime of rape,
the act of sexual intercourse is not in of itself a crime. However, in order for sex to be a
lawful behavior, you must have consent from the parties involved in act. Failure to
obtain consent is an example of an attendant circumstance.
