1. Inspect the condition of the shock mounts and rubber cushions.
2. Look to see if any fluid has leaked out of the shock, indicating a bad seal. Fluid cannot be replenished and the shock will have to be replaced. It is normal for a slight amount of moisture to be on the seal.
3. If the outside of the shock body is damaged, replace both shocks.
4. If rubber bump stops show signs of contact, a shock could be damaged or the vehicle might have been lowered or raised excessively.
