Parents need to offer children appropriate portion sizes of nutrient-dense foods and water. They need to ensure that no more than 6 ounces of 100-percent juice is given to children; to monitor the foods and beverages which are served during child care; and ensure that toddlers receive adequate amounts of kilocalories, carbohydrate, protein, fat, calcium, iron, vitamin D. Parents also need to make sure that young children avoid excess iron and fiber.
