Explain why Tammy’s blood glucose increased and she lost weight when she decreased the amount of insulin she injected.
An individual with diabetes does not have enough insulin, so, when Tammy stopped her insulin injections, not all the glucose entered her cells for energy or storage. In fact, some of Tammy’s glucose remained circulating in her blood and was filtered out by the kidneys, resulting in many calories lost as glucose in the urine. Thus, Tammy lost weight when no additional insulin was provided.
