According to the American Diabetes Association, 29.1 million people in the United States have diabetes. An estimated 18.8 million people have been diagnosed with the disease with 8.1 million going undiagnosed. There are approximately 86 million people with pre-diabetes. There were 1.7 million new cases of diabetes in people 20 years old and older diagnosed in 2010 (American Diabetes Association [ADA]).
