Stress has advantages and disadvantages.
One negative aspect of stress is that it is a major contributor to heart disease, cancer, lung problems, accidents, cirrhosis of the liver, and suicide. Stress in the workplace can lead to burnout. Prolonged and severe stress plays a major role in absenteeism, accidents, and lost productivity.
Stress, however, has some positive aspects. Some amount of stress is necessary to accomplish anything meaningful. Moderate amounts of stress is a powerful motivator and improves performance.
