Procedures, one of the five components of an IS, anchor an IS to a process. A procedure is a set of instructions for a person to follow when operating an IS. Each information system has a different procedure for every process the information system supports. For example, when a person creates a Facebook account, the Facebook IS gives him/her a procedure to follow in the form of instructions for filling out the on-screen application. The Facebook information system includes a procedure for each of its processes–there is a procedure for creating an account, posting a picture, searching for friends, and setting privacy preferences.
