The IT department is responsible for everything from hardware components and software programs to networking strategies. Specific areas of responsibility include:
1 ) providing security both in response to computer virus attacks and emergency recovery from power outages and system failures
2 ) keeping current and operational all of the computers, printers, and any other technology equipment
3 ) managing the design of the company's networks and databases where information is stored
4 ) selecting the appropriate software programs as well as often providing training to employees
5 ) creating custom software to bridge the gaps between the products available and the needs of the firm
6 ) maintaining and managing the use of mobile computing throughout the company–equipment includes notebook computers, tablet PCs, smartphones, and other devices
7 ) implementing remote access to computing resources, such as employees' access to work files or email when they are away from the office
